The many images of China: new angles and fields of study

visages de la Chine

The seminar explores the multidisciplinary field of Chinese studies through a series of meetings and debates with French sinologists and emeritus Chinese researchers. The various works of these researchers focus on the extremely vast field of "Chinese studies" and the many themes that surround Chinese "civilization", across the territories and millennia that constitute its history. In particular, they experiment new angles to define original objects or the rediscovery of known terrains.

China, 中国 zhongguo meaning Middle Kingdom is a culture that displays an image.

Chinese studies are taking on this multiform "China". Like their subject, the fields of research are extremely varied and inexhaustible. Together they maintain a continuous dialogue about Chinese worlds, the renewal of methods and fields leading to the emergence of new issues.

The seminar will feature the history of scholars and modern-age thinkers, the history of ancient Chinese thought and the sociology of contemporary China, the history of Chinese aesthetics, the critical and historical analysis of China as an "empire", as a "civilization" and as a "nation" in the process of conquering the world. The lectures will be followed by an discussion with the students.
