Women and religions across the Mediterranean Sea

femme en prière

This one-day symposium will disseminate the results of a two-year research on the past evolutions and present transformations affecting Mediterranean women in particular when they are linked, in one way or another, to religious convictions and rules.

The symposium is organized in two parts.

  • Academic study event, with three thematic debates, each taking into account the three main religious traditions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam). Registration is required.
  • A debate in the evening, available to a wider public, will bring together representatives who are particularly committed to religion. Confronting their experience, their delight and the challenges they may encounter as part of their mission, they will also send us their hopes for a religious future which is shared between women and men, believers and non-believers, on an equal basis.

The symposium is directed by Valentine Zuber, director of studies, holder of the chair of "Religions and International Relations", EPHE-PSL; Alberto Fabio Ambrosio, professor of theology and history of religions at the Luxembourg School of Religion and Society; and Jacques Huntzinger, former French ambassador to Israel
