PhD track in chemistry

The PSL PhD track in Chemistry is a fully-funded 5-year program structured around two phases. During the first phase, each student enrolled in this track draws on courses from PSL’s research master’s in chemistry and starts working towards his/her research project. The research master is thus a stepping-stone towards the second phase of the PhD track, during which the student develops his/her research project and conducts a PhD thesis in one of the PSL’s chemistry laboratories (note that a collaborative project can lead to a PhD conducted in several laboratories). During that second phase, the student is mentored to gain state-of-the-arts research methods, write academic papers, present at academic conferences and prepare for the academic job market.

Phase 1 | Research Master in Chemistry

PhD track students will choose between two curricula to complete their research master:

Students will explore advanced topics in chemistry in an up-to-date, transversal and transdisciplinary manner. They will gain expert knowledge in fundamental chemistry through research-oriented classes and multiple internship opportunities.

Phase 2 | Doctoral studies

During their doctoral years, students will benefit from the following programs:

  • PSL interdisciplinary courses: PSL is a strongly interdisciplinary university with special courses that cut across our disciplinary graduate programs and are open to all graduate students;
  • M&D Chemistry Seminars: this seminar will be organized by and for Master and PhD students;
  • PSL Chemistry PhD Day: it will give PhD students the opportunity to share their results and will allow the chemistry community to exchange and discuss collaborative projects.
