The exhibition is free of charge and intended for all audiences; it will offer visitors a rich highlight through the grand foyer of the Collège de France, so that they can discover not only the material reality of hieroglyphs from a few rare pieces, but also their mystery: deciphering them was a major challenge for scholars for centuries. The exhibition will proceed by shedding light on the brilliant personality of Champollion, the discovery of the secret of hieroglyphs and the birth of Egyptology.
The exhibition is organized by the Collège de France with the support of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Bartholdi Museum in Colmar, the Champollion Museum (Vif, Isère department) and several private collections.
A series of lectures associated with the exhibition will take place at the Collège de France from September 27 to October 25, 2022. The lectures are available to the general public without reservation on Tuesdays, September 27 and October 4, 11, 19 and 25, 2022 at 6 pm.
