The cells, at the center of life

photo fête de la science

The cells that make up organisms are fascinating, come and discover their exciting life at the Institut Curie!

In contact with researchers, and through visits to laboratories, fun workshops and conferences, come and discover the exciting life of cells, from the smallest scale by discovering their composition in proteins and compartments, to their organization within an organ. You will see how nanotechnologies, imaging and genetics, for example, enable us to understand how the cells that make up our bodies organize and communicate.

Cells are the basic unit of living organisms and exist in various forms. Their life can be described at different scales. For example, the human body includes 30 billion cells in total, of 300 different kinds and they make hundreds of thousands of different proteins and lipids.

Understanding their composition and function, and their interaction with their environment, enables scientists to better understand the normal and pathological behavior of cells and to combat many diseases.

You can also visit the Institut Curie, a historical institute created by Marie Curie, specialized in cancer research, and the Institut Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, specialized in microfluidics, both located in the heart of Paris.
