JEDERMANN / Hugo von Hofmannsthal

Jedermann, "every man" in German, is a man like you and me, probably a little richer and a little more mediocre. However, death interrupts the course of his festive life: it is time for him to give an account of his actions before God. Will Jedermann, then "drunk with pleasure", be able to "succeed in his death", to consider his past life with repentance and to die in the hope of salvation?

The famous playwright Hugo von Hoffmanstahl has reinvented the medieval mystery with humor and spiritual depth. His allegorical play addresses major spiritual and social issues that are more topical than ever: the precariousness of our lives, the fate of the poor, our insensitivity in the face of the most blatant injustices, and the isolation of death in contemporary societies.

His funny and poetic text charms the audience of the Austrian festival of Salzburg every summer. So why shouldn't it be the same for a French audience, with a fresh translation? The Compagnie du Duende invites you to share this moment of collective joy at the ENS - PSL theater very soon.
