Movies and astrophysics: in the vortex of Jupiter

photo fête de la science

La Fémis and the Observatoire de Paris - PSL are partners to show the representation of space in cinema based on the most current scientific data.

Based on this collaboration, which recently focused on the landscape of Jupiter, as well as that of several exoplanets, this evening will combine screenings of short films made by the students and presentations by researchers and movie professionals on the artistic and scientific issues of these representations of space.

Exoplanets in particular, located outside our solar system, pose specific challenges when shown because of their distance and properties. How to show these universes in cinema without imitating terrestrial visual references? What balance should be found between scientific accuracy and imagination?
