PhD track in cognitive science

The PSL PhD track in cognitive science is a fully-funded 5-year program.
During the first two years, each student enrolled in the PhD track completes a master’s in cognitive science and starts building their research project. During the next three years, the student develops their research project and conducts a PhD thesis in one of PSL Lab's. Throughout these two phases, the student is mentored to gain state-of-the-arts research methods, write academic papers, present at academic conferences and prepare for a successful career in academia, industry or government in fields such as AI, public policy, education, neurotechnology.

Phase 1 | Research Master in cognitive science

The master’s program is designed to produce high-level scientists with a broad understanding of key concepts in cognitive science, advanced expertise in at least one cognitive science discipline, and the ability to creatively address research questions.
It also emphasizes strong methodological training in experimental design, imaging techniques, data analysis, meta-analysis, modeling, and philosophical writing. Finally, the program ensures direct immersion in research through internships in the world’s leading cognitive science labs.


Phase 2 | Doctoral studies

Doctoral research is conducted in a PSL laboratory. Training is conducted in a doctoral school (list below):

During their doctoral years, students will benefit from the following programs:

  • Interdisciplinary courses: PSL is a strongly interdisciplinary university with special courses that cut across our disciplinary graduate programs and are open to all graduate students;
  • PSL innovation and entrepreneurship program for those who are interested in tech transfer from academic labs to economic world 
  • PSL PhD training
