The Grand Programme de recherche ‘Fabriques de l'antique’ (Major Research Programme ‘Factories of Antiquity’) is organising its Spring School in Oxford from 23 to 27 March 2026.
If you are a student at PSL, in Master's 2 (or equivalent) or in the first three years of a PhD, take part in the Spring School organised by the Grand Programme de Recherche ‘Fabriques de l'Antique’ in Oxford from 23 to 27 March 2026, in collaboration with the Maison française d'Oxford!
This intensive Spring School will offer a unique immersion into the heart of the FAn project's research questions: how do societies, both ancient and modern, construct their experiences of time and their representations of antiquity
Programme
The programme will be structured around FAn's three scientific themes, with one day dedicated to each:
Theme 1: The construction of time and its challenges
Theme 2: Constructions and representations of antiquity
Theme 3: The linguistic shaping of the world: languages and writing as historical objects
Mornings will be devoted to lectures followed by discussions between researchers and participants, in order to raise awareness of the programme's thematic and methodological issues. Afternoons will provide an exceptional opportunity to put theory into practice through workshops on primary sources within the collections of the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library and the Oxford Museum of the History of Science.
Scientific Committee: Olivier Delouis (CNRS), Vincent Eltschinger (EPHE-PSL), Matthieu Husson (Paris Observatory-PSL), Vassa Kontouma (EPHE-PSL), Daniel Petit (ENS-PSL and EPHE-PSL), Andréas Stauder (EPHE-PSL), Stéphane Van Damme (Director of the Maison française d'Oxford).
