PSL University’s Commitment to Qualitative Research Assessment

PSL University contributes to education and research at the highest levels in all areas of knowledge and creation: Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering, the Arts. As such, it is particularly sensitive to the diversity of research practices and outputs across disciplines and to the need for qualitative research evaluation, recognizing that publication metrics cannot substitute for peer-reviewed assessment of research quality and impact.

PSL University therefore values initiatives promoting responsible and qualitative research assessment, such as the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), a global initiative dedicated to improving research assessment practices; and the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), which brings together organizations committed to reforming the methods and processes by which research is evaluated.

In keeping with these principles, PSL University decided in January 2026 to become a signatory of DORA, as well as a member and signatory of CoARA, and commits to advancing research assessment practices that recognize the full diversity of research contributions. This commitment aligns with PSL University's dedication to open science, as highlighted by its Open Science charter.

The implementation of DORA and CoARA principles for research assessment within PSL University is overseen by PSL University's Vice-President for Research.
