PSL voices | 24h with Mathilde in Master’s degree in Human Resources Management
What does a day in the Human Resources Management master look like at PSL? I’m Mathilde, a first-year student and I bring you along with me to experience a day in my life.
8:25 🌅
After a 20-minute bus ride, I arrive at the Dauphine-PSL campus. I log on to the MyDauphine app like every morning to see what room my class will be in: A305 it is! I’m headed to the third floor, and since I feel some motivation, I’ll use the stairs.
9:00 ☕
The class is lively and studious. We begin with our Individual and collective professional relations r class. Today’s class is about employment termination. Since I have studied my course this weekend, I’m quite comfortable with the notions the teacher is speaking about.
This morning’s surprise? Following the coffee break, two lawyers: one from Belgium and the other from Canada, joined us online to share their expertise on termination in their respective countries. This was a fascinating exchange that sparked very interesting conversations among us.
11:45 🍽️
Time for lunch. Between the cafeteria (good option for takeaway food or a sandwich) and the university restaurant (where you can sit and take your time to enjoy a real meal), the choice is not always easy.
Lunch gives you the opportunity to catch up with my friends about our weekends and about this morning’s class, that was unanimously enjoyed. With some time on our hands before class starts again, we found an empty classroom to catch up on our group projects.
13:45 📒
This afternoon, we start a new class: Team project management. We met our teacher, a consultant in a well-known agency who introduced us to the basics of project management. According to him, everything depends on the beginning of the project: framing, communicating the right information and the ability to lead the team.
In order to illustrate his points, he gave us a challenge. In my group of five, I was the manager: I had to describe a drawing that only I could see, and my teammates had to remake it following my directions. “Go left, go right, higher, lower...”. This exercise was funny and revealing at the same time; it showed us the importance of clear and efficient communication in teamwork.
17h00 🖊️
With some energy left from this afternoon, I made my way to the library to write up notes from the previous class. I also took this opportunity to finalize my PowerPoint presentation for tomorrow. I will present the first steps of my thesis that explores the opportunities that DEI policies represent for companies. That way, I can go home feeling calm and relaxed.
18h30 🎤
I finally went to Dauphine’s amphitheater to attend a conference presented by Dominique de Villepin, former Prime Minister, who spoke about current international politics. These conferences, organized by Dauphine Discussion Débat, take place once a month and are always captivating!
