EELISA European University opens up new horizons

Le

At their meeting last week, the members of the EELISA Governing Board took several decisive steps forward: the alliance welcomed two new major partners – the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) – and confirmed its strategic direction for the coming years. The representatives of the institutions thus moved towards the creation of a joint legal entity, strengthened the post-2027 sustainability plan and adopted measures to further structure innovation, recognition and staff participation.

Two new associate partners join EELISA

A highlight of this meeting was the welcome given to the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), now associate partners of the alliance.

University of São Paulo (USP)

Founded in 1934, USP is one of the most prestigious universities in the world, with more than 5,300 teaching and research staff, nearly 80,000 students and more than 580 training programmes. Regularly ranked among the top 200 universities in the world, it alone accounts for nearly 20% of Brazil's scientific output.

Technical University of Moldova (UTM)

A leading institution in engineering, technology and innovation in the Republic of Moldova, UTM welcomes 12,500 students across 11 faculties, offering courses in Romanian, English and French covering a wide range of engineering disciplines, from food technology to veterinary science.

Sponsored by PSL University, the arrival of USP marks a key step in the internationalisation of our European university.
It consolidates ongoing projects and reinforces the collective ambitions of the Alliance

For Hasan Mandal (Istanbul Technical University), the new chair of the Governing Board, "the arrival of USP and UTM strengthens the alliance's scientific capacity and geographical reach."

For El Mouhoub Mouhoud, President of PSL University and outgoing co-chair, this dynamic confirms the alliance's international vocation:
"This partnership marks a promising step towards sustainable progress and the expanded international outreach of EELISA."

Publication of the Joint Declaration on Enlargement

This meeting was also marked by the official signing of the joint declaration “Expanding Horizons: EELISA’s Commitment to Global Collaboration”, which sets out a clear strategy for expanding the alliance.

Two years after the launch of the deployment phase, the presidents, rectors and directors of member universities reaffirm their shared vision:

  • openness and academic solidarity;
  • the circulation of knowledge beyond European borders;
  • a commitment to a global space for scientific cooperation in a fragmented international context.

This declaration is a decisive step towards a more connected, resilient academic community focused on major global challenges.
