As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PSL and the University of São Paulo (USP) signed on 20 November 2024, PSL and USP are organising a workshop bringing together 8 PSL researchers and 13 USP researchers with a view to creating the first internationally renowned research and innovation centre in São Paulo, from 7 to 9 July.

Nearly seven months after signing a framework agreement aimed at developing existing scientific collaborations in health and engineering and initiating new projects in the circular economy in the state of São Paulo, the University of São Paulo (USP) and PSL University have taken another decisive step.

Together, they are laying the foundations for a future international centre of excellence that will bring together researchers, institutions and companies based in the state of São Paulo.

This centre, the result of a strategic partnership with the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP), will be PSL's first research and innovation centre in Brazil.

This initiative is part of a growing rapprochement between the two institutions, marked by USP's recent association with the European alliance EELISA.

During a workshop held on 7 and 8 July at the Maison du CNRS on the USP campus, a PSL delegation led by its President, El Mouhoub Mouhoud, travelled to Brazil to lay the foundations for this future structure.

Eight French researchers, each representing one of PSL's major scientific programmes, were able to exchange ideas with their Brazilian counterparts in order to launch the first joint research projects.

At the same time, the PSL institutional delegation met with Brazilian industrial players in order to involve them in this dynamic and encourage their involvement in the development of the project.

This workshop would not have been possible without the support of the Consulate General of France in São Paulo, which generously funded two return plane tickets for PSL researchers and will host the closing ceremony of the event.

We would also like to express our deep gratitude to the Maison du CNRS in Brazil for its hospitality and logistical support.
