Chairman of the Academic Senate Holder of a PhD in Astrophysics and Astronomy, Claude Catala has served as President of the Observatoire de Paris - PSL from 2011 to 2020. Previously, he served as Deputy Director of the Toulouse Astrophysics Laboratory of the Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées (OMP) from 1999 to 2001, and as President of the National Star Physics Program at INSU from 1999-2003. From 2005 to 2011, he served as Scientific Advisor for Astronomy with MENESR.Tasked with managing large-scale international space projects since 1993, Claude Catala participated in the CoRoT mission on the research of exoplanets and the study of the internal structure of stars, and served as Scientific Director of the PLATO space mission from 2007 to 2012. His research was awarded the Prix Deslandres in 2008 and the SF2A Prize in 1990. He was elected Chairman of the Academic Senate of PSL in January 2021.
