MSCA Conference speakers - Joel Hanisek

Joel Hanisek is Policy & Program Manager for Scholars at Risk Europe.

In his work, Joel Hanisek manages the EU-funded Inspireurope project and supports the activities of Scholar At Risk sections across Europe. Joel Hanisek has a background in NGO advocacy at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and was previously also a member of the New York-based NGO Working Group on the Security Council. He holds a Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin, School of Religion, where he researched socio-religious aspects of Iran-U.S. cultural politics in the long 19th century. His research is organised around the ethics of academic freedom in transcultural contexts and historic formations of higher education values in international exchange. Joel has also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor on the M.Phil. program in International Peace Studies at Trinity College Dublin where taught human rights theory and practice.

He will take part in the 2022 MSCA conference, in the second workshop on academic freedom and academics at risk.
